switzerland

A few weeks ago, we found out that Jon would be going to Lausanne, Switzerland for work. After a very generous offer from my sister-in-law, Beth, to watch our kiddos, I booked a ticket and went along with him. Beth and Daniel flew into Austin to stay with Bren and Lucy and Jon and I took off for a somewhat short (six days) but relatively cheap trip.

We arrived in Geneva on Sunday and (after a quick nap) met up with Jon's co-worker and his family to walk around the vineyards outside of Lausanne:

Jon had to work on Monday, so I explored on my own (sans camera). On Tuesday we took the train to Montreux and walked along Lake Geneva to Chillon Castle, unexpectedly passing by a statue of Freddie Mercury on the way.

The cathedral of Notre Dame in Lausanne offered the best views of the city. I also learned something new about my husband and discovered that Jon is afraid of heights (after we made it all the way to the top of the bell tower).

On our last day, we went to Gruyeres and enjoyed seeing a little bit of the Swiss countryside. We also enjoyed the cheese....

Outside of the H.R. Giger (creator of the aliens in Alien) museum in Gruyeres; very strange to see it in the middle of such a quaint little town.
A random fork in the water outside of the town of Vevey:

Walking through Vevey:
All in all, we managed to cram a lot in and had a great time. Lucy is very jealous and making us promise we'll bring her next time.

Awesome! Ok, those hills behind the barn remind me of the hills around here. Crazy.
